Application Procedure

Students with valid fellowships can apply for Ph.D. programs through Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research (AcSIR) for sessions starting in January or August. Applications should be made via the AcSIR website during the call for applications.

Assessment and Interview

An assessment committee evaluates applications, and selected candidates are invited for an interview.

Provisional Admission

Students are provisionally admitted upon production of valid score cards or fellowship letters, with final admission confirmation after
receiving the final fellowship award letter.


Qualifying Degree

• Master’s degree in science with a minimum of 55% marks (without rounding off) or equivalent grade for General (UR)/General-EWS.

• Master’s degree in science with a minimum of 50% marks (without rounding off) or equivalent grade for OBC (NCL)/SC/ST, Third gender, and Persons with Disability (PwD).

Modes of Entry and Eligibility Criteria

The applicant should have a valid and tenable National-level Fellowship (JRF/SRF from agencies like CSIR, ICMR, UGC, DBT, DST, etc.) or equivalent fellowships like DBT-BET, INSPIRE, RGNF, etc.

Experience: Must have been employed as a project assistant in a sanctioned R&D project at the Institute for at least one year.

Permission: Requires prior permission from the PI of the project and concurrence of the Institute's Director.

Publication Requirement: Those without a national level examination qualification must have at least one publication in an SCI journal with substantial research contribution as co-author.

Exemptions: Project assistants who have qualified any Ph.D. qualifying national level examination (NET-LS, GATE, BET, JEST, etc.), even without a valid fellowship, are exempt from the publication requirement.

Financial Assistance: The financial assistance from the project to the applicant should be valid for at least one year from the notified date of commencement of the academic session.

Evaluation: Must meet eligibility conditions and be critically evaluated by the Screening and Selection committee.

Selection: Based on an oral examination by the Selection Committee.

Continuation: Post-project tenure, students may continue without a fellowship with the Director's approval, or their admission will be cancelled.

Group-IV Scientists and Group-III Technical Staff may apply with prior approval from the Ph.D. Ad-hoc screening committee and the Director.

Requires an endorsement (No Objection Certificate) from the current employer.

Selected candidates must fulfill the Pre-Ph.D. coursework requirements by attending the Institute in person.


International Fellowships - Joint Ph.D. Degree (Cotutelle)

AcSIR Ph.D. students at CSIR-CDRI have the opportunity to apply for the prestigious Joint Ph.D. programs, offered in collaboration with the following internationally renowned universities:

RMIT University, Melbourne, Australia

University of Western Australia, Perth, Australia

Deakin University, Geelong, Australia

As part of this program, selected students will spend up to one year at one of these partner institutions. During their stay in Australia, they will receive:

A monthly fellowship for living expenses

Return international airfare

Comprehensive health insurance

Full tuition fee waiver at the Australian university

Upon successful completion, students will be awarded a joint Ph.D. degree by both AcSIR and the partner international university.
