Research Interests

Malaria remains one of the greatest global health challenges and a thrust area of CSIR-CDRI. The emergence and spread of multi-drug-resistant strains of Plasmodium falciparum & P. vivax and non-availability of potential anti-malarial vaccines demand the development of new chemotherapeutic agents for treatment of malaria. The drug development program requires a fool proof model system to obtain quick and reliable results as well as rapid and inexpensive technique for quantification of drug efficacy. Establishment of continuous cultivation of malaria parasite has been very crucial to predict response to antimalarial drugs and to identify novel chemotherapeutic interventions. Our lab is involved in evaluation of in vitro antimalarial activity of new synthetic molecules and natural products against Plasmodium falciparum as well as development of P. falciparum model and assay systems.
